The Mountain Madness Half Iron has a cult like following due to the leg shattering course including a 20% grade climb. It is rapidly gaining the reputation as being one of the hardest half irons in the nation. The bike course has a 6 mile CAT 1 climb to the bike turnaround and then a 3 mile climb just before T2 and the run. A King and Queen of the Mountain Polka-Dot Jersey is awarded to the fastest male and female to make the ascent, which is unprecedented in triathlon racing.
